What time is it? It's watermelon time again in Saline, LA. We would like to invite everyone to our 29th Annual Saline Watermelon Festival which will be held Monday July 4 through Saturday July 9, 2011. Participants can enjoy fun activities throughout the week, with Saturday being the main festival day.
Monday will begin our treasure hunt with a prize of $150.00 and if you are wearing an official 2011 Watermelon Festival t-shirt you will win an extra $50.00. New clues will be posted on the bulletin board downtown Saline by 7:30am each morning and announced on KRLQ 94.1 each morning at 8:00am. Since Monday is a holiday we will have our free kids night on Tuesday night July 5th from 6:30-8:30pm that will include inflatable jumpers, free snow cones, and goody bags for all children up to age 12. Tuesday night will also be youth night for any youth age 13 years and older. The youth will meet at Magnolia Baptist Church at 6:30pm for games and hot dogs and hamburgers. The area wide church service will be at the school gym at 6:30pm. Brian Britt from Calvary Baptist Church in Ruston will bring the message and Johnny Martin and Friends from Shady Grove will bring the special music. Our annual beauty pageants will take place on Thursday and Friday evenings at 6:30pm in the school gym.
We will have the antique car show again the year. Registration will begin at 8:30am until 10:30am at Magnolia Baptist Church across from the school. Booths open at 7:00am. We will have arts and crafts, food and novelties at this years festival. The parade will begin at 10:00am and crop judging and the melon auction, and bingo in the library will start at 11:00am. Beginning at 12:00pm the fun contest will start in downtown and also the antique car show judging will be at Magnolia Church. The car show awards will be given out at 2:00pm at the church. Something new to our festival this year is professional wrestling in the school gym. This will begin at 3:00pm and admission is $10.00 per person. To close out the festival , we will have the White Mustang Band from Arkansas playing from 7:00 to 11:00pm for our street dance.
The Carefree Community will be holding their quilt raffle and a bake sale at the Senior Citizen center.
